    Hi!
I have a 10 yr old son with austism, His name is Trent. Trent is afrade of jesus and going to heaven. He thinks church is were people go to die and go to heaven how do I teach him that god is not deth and to go to heaven is a great thing. I want to put him in sunday school but he’s scard he will die if he goes to church. Also he has a potty mouth and I’m afrade he will swear in sunday class, Or have a mental break down if I take him to church. What should I do? HELP!!!!

  7. Susan,
Thank you for the note and your visit to our website. I’m saddened that Trent is so frightened of visiting church. I can appreciate his concerns about death. Sadly, we propagate that idea when the only time we introduce our children to church is either at a funeral or wedding – both can be a frightening experience depending on who you ask (I’m kidding of course about the wedding).

An excellent alternative could be to take Trent to a youth service or children’s church service. For example we have a weekly Super Church for kids Trent’s age. With his special situation it would be imperative that you accompany him until you’re certain he’s comfortable in this particular setting. The kids have a lot of fun in this situation and still learn a great deal about God. As he becomes more comfortable in the Super Church setting, depending on your assessment of his reception to it, you may progress to Sunday School.

Another option would be to show Trent some videos of some good church services so he would be able to see that church isn’t always about death. Services that include perhaps some worshipful singing, anointed preaching, and even a drama, could go a long way to put his fears to rest.

The last option which may prove helpful is to have your local youth minister visit your home and begin to discuss Trent’s concerns with him directly. This may require a couple visits for Trent to become familiar with the minister, so that when he actually sees him in church, perhaps some of Trent’s inhibitions may be put at ease.

    Blessings,
    Pastor RDM

i was wondering when the health screenings are available and if they are open to the general public.

  9. GAC says:

Response to Joy Greer: Health screenings are available on a regular basis and yes, they are free. However, they are diverse in nature in terms of what the screenings are for. For example: Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar, Cholesterol, Colo-rectal (take home kits).

Calling all saints…I am looking for a temporary home for 2 cats and a bunny. Their owner is my son’s girlfriend, who is currently homeless. She doesn’t want to give them up, but she needs a place for them to stay until she finds a place. Please contact me if you can help. Thank you.
