January 2008 Month of Consecration

Workman's FastHappy New Year! With the holidays behind us and the onset of a new year, the pastoral staff is pleased to announce that January has been designated as a month of consecration. The Bible declares in Leviticus 20:7 Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the LORD your God. That’s exactly what GAC will be doing for the next month.

Step 1: Communion and Footwashing

Grace partook of the Biblically ordained observances of communion and footwashing. These observances enable the renewal a person needs to begin the new year with a fresh start as it were.

Step 2: 21-Day Fast

Starting January 2, 2008, GAC will be fasting for 21 days to enable us to achieve the spiritual level that Christ has ordained for our church. While many will be fasting their meals for the entire 21 days, subsisting strictly on water, some will be observing the “Workman’s Fast.”

The Workman’s Fast is simply fasting (and praying) for the entire work day until 5 p.m. at which time the person would eat and then continue to fast until 5 p.m. the next day. This fast enables the working individual the opportunity to fast and pray, and is recommended for those who work strenuously or have health related issues that may prevent them from fasting for longer periods of time.

There are other variations of fasting that could be observed, but the overall intent is to ensure that an individual is observing the biblical fast with the proper motives and in the proper fashion.

Step 3: Monday Evening Prayer

In addition to your private prayer during the fast, GAC will be meeting again on Monday evenings at 7 p.m. for corporate prayer in the GAC Youth Chapel. I am glad to see you and the pastoral staff in your church have the vision to lead your congregation in the vision God has given. May God pour out His anointing upon the brothers.
